We have been loving this arbor, arch and ring ceremony displays. And it isn’t just because we love flowers but because the ceremony is what brings everyone there that day to celebrate love and this amazing thing called marriage.

In every photo of the ceremony capturing all your emotions and reactions all the ones that you will look at and recall exactly what it was like to be in that moment, each one will be telling your story beautifully with your color theme and feel of your day. And on the wedding day how better to keep the focus on you and your wedding day but add a wow feature to your ceremony spot!

What is fitting for you can vary quite a bit. Are you a lover of whimsical? Classic symmetry? Asymmetrical romance? Do you like the feel of geometric shapes? Do you prefer an industrial feel? Rounded or square?

The options are endless and honestly that is the beauty of a consultation we can discuss how each part of this can perfectly tell the story you desire for your wedding day! We would love to help you with this vision! Jump over to our contact page to get the consultation process started!

This wedding is all about your love.  All about your vows and this amazing ceremony starting your marriage. As such there is a focus and investment of décor to accent this focus.  To create romance and display the hard work and time of your vision.

As it should be, there will be so many pictures from your wedding that will be focused on your ceremony.  Your tears and smiles overtake your face in this life altering event.  If you have a ceremony design not only will you shine but your theme and design will shine!  You will have a cohesive story in your photos and those images will showcase your love, which is what brought us all together for this beautiful event, and your vision in a stunning way!

Today, now that it is beginning to feel more spring like, I want to share with you a beautiful wedding that I got to be a part of last June. Allison and Andy had a beautiful day and the flowers are still some of my favorites.  Their venue was the industrial and charming The Rickhouse in Durham, NC.  Here’s the lineup for the vendor dream team:

Now enjoy some of my favorite pictures of their coral, blush, and mint wedding! We used coral charm peonies, mint foliage, freesia and quicksand roses, just to name a few. Love!

Team Flower Workshop, Knots ‘N Such, Raleigh Wedding Planner and Florist

Last year, I had the opportunity to attend a Team Flower workshop in Boone, NC.  Kelley treated us to luxurious accommodation in a mountain-top cabin.  Designers from all over the southeast attended and what a pleasure it was to have such amazing support.  The first day we had an in-depth discussion of business practices, workflows, and pricing strategies.  The second and third day was spent doing hands-on design.  The beautiful blooms were provided by many local farms, including a fellow Chapel Designer and Team Flower member, Susan Wright of Shady Grove Gardens.  On the last day, Heather Payne Photography attended to take professional images of our work.  Shout out to Kelly from Team Flower who showered us with beautiful gifts, food, and education.  It was truly a delight, and I’m excited to share with you some of the images of my work done there.

Shop Local With In-Season Flowers – Tips from a Raleigh Wedding Planner

Poppy Belle Design is a Raleigh wedding planner and florist. Feature photo by Mikkel Paige Photography.

Let’s be honest, when you think of weddings, flowers are usually right up there with white gowns, cake and dancing like a fool.

Even in the vaguest of daydreams, most people will at least picture a bouquet, am I right? Flowers and weddings go hand in hand—particularly this time of year with so many pretty things in bloom!

Now, as a Raleigh wedding planner who also doubles as a florist, I’m a bit biased, but I really do think flowers can bring so much to your big day. There’s no doubt about it, though, that bill can add up fast. A great and easy way to save a bit on blooms is to go with flowers that are in season.

And trust me, there are so many options! So here’s a quick guide to what grows when.

Some flowers are more or less year-round, such as carnations, chrysanthemums, lilies and gerbera daisies, and roses. But others are a bit pickier.

Spring

The growing season is here! Spring is one of my favorite times for flowers—shocking for a florist, right?!

Some common ones for this time of year are the calla lily, delphinium, forsythia, freesia, gardenia, hyacinth, irises, daffodils, hydrangeas, sweet pea, casa blanca lily, lilac, orchid, peony, poppy, tulip and ranunculus.

There are lots of tree blossoms that show up in the spring, as well, like dogwood, cherry, and quince. Those could be uber romantic for a barnyard or winery wedding!

Summer

Summer can be a bit rougher on flowers around here due to the intense heat. You’ll probably experience your florist being a bit more worried about leaving those blooms outside for long periods of time, lining up someone to make sure they have enough water.

Good choices for this time of year are sunflowers, Asiatic lilies, gerbera daisies, peonies, delphiniums, irises, calla lilies, lisianthus, baby’s breath, carnations, chrysanthemums, dahlias, delphiniums, foxgloves, freesia, gardenia, hydrangea, iris, zinnia, and lilac.

Fall

With more of a harvest feel, fall weddings sometimes shy away from too many flowers, and be prepared for the blooms you do have to boast those deep, rich autumn colors!

Good choices for these months include gerbera daisies, hydrangea, delphinium, amaryllis, carnations, viburnum, irises, narcissus, baby’s breath, freesia, juniper, lily orchid, Queen Ann’s Lace, roses, sunflower and zinnia.

Throw in some leaves, pumpkins and wheat for a wonderfully crisp fall feel!

Winter

Flowers during the cold season can really add a pop of color, especially if it’s snowy white outside (usually not the case around here, I’m afraid).

Things that you can find blooming at this time are carnations, gerbera daisies, helleborus, holly berry, lilies, casa blanca lilies, orchids, tulips, hydrangeas, amaryllis, pansy and poinsettias.

Add some ivy and evergreen accents to really set the winter feel!
