Remember back in June, we here in NC thought we would literally melt from the heat wave? That was the setting for a lovely summer outdoor wedding for us. We persevered and stood strong in 100+ degree heat, not wanting to let our clients down at all! (When really we wanted to jump into the pond at the venue! LOL)
Poppy Belle, Durham florist, joined the planning process a few months prior and carefully reviewed existing plans and helped to fill in the gaps, so that the day went amazingly smooth and nothing was forgotten. But we can’t plan for Mother Nature! Just as the sun went down and the reception was in full swing, She threw another curve ball. Enter dark clouds, thunder, lightning, and huge gusts of wind. We were sure we were gonna be drenched! The bride asked to move up the tosses and sparkler exit, so we hurried through those, and thought we had just made it in time. Packing up was pure chaos as everyone still present packed and loaded in a frenzy. But guess what? It never rained.
I have to laugh looking back. This wedding was sweet and wonderful, but probably the craziest experience I’ve encountered yet. It also illustrated how Poppy Belle can persevere in any type of environment! I’m so thankful for my assistant coordinator, Amy, for hanging in there with me. And I’m thankful for the other vendors, those who cooperated to make the day magical for the couple.
I also want to note the lovely flowers; I had so much fun designing these unique pieces for the wedding. The bride’s favorite color is purple, but she couldn’t choose just one shade. Soooo, we used all shades of purple! The venue has hanging baskets of fern and rose bushes all around the property, so we used fern and roses in all the arrangements as well. Spring was the purple wedding season for me, but each wedding was so different in blooms and style, so I never got bored, even at this last purple wedding. I’m always so inspired by each couple and strive to design something truly unique for them.
I could ramble all day about how much I enjoy my job and how much I hope to please my beautiful couples, but I must sign off for today!
