Flowers – let me count the ways I love thee! Tips from a Durham Florist

Full disclosure: I’m biased on this one. In addition to being a Durham florist, so why wouldn’t I want to convince you to have blooms on your big day?

But really, I actually do believe flowers are the best way to go. Don’t get me wrong, there are hundreds of cute alternative centerpiece and bouquet ideas out there—from candles to succulents to vintage books and lanterns.

So why go with colorful plants over anything else?

There’s something about flowers that exudes romance—even for the non-rose lovers among us. Blooms and candles always seem to set the mood for a particularly fancy date, and bouquets have been one of the greatest declarations of love since the dawn of time.

Floral arrangements also tend to go hand in hand with celebrations. Something about those bright colors and giant petals really add to the ambiance. And they’re so versatile! Whether you’re going glamour, black tie, bohemian or beach, you can certainly find the flowers to fit you and your wedding perfectly.

The main argument against going floral is money. There’s no way around the fact that it costs money to arrange flowers—because (I can attest) it takes a lot of work!

But don’t let your budget ban you from having a bloom or two here and there.

You don’t need to have that hanging flower chandelier (though seriously…wow!) or rose petals lining the aisle. Try using single blooms for the bridesmaids and small arrangements on every other table and use wow pieces on the head and entrance tables coupled with a spectacular bridal bouquet to make your statement.

Shop local! Talk with me about what’s in season and go with that. Other budget friendly ideas include choosing 1-2 types of blooms rather than lots of variety. We have to buy in bulk, so the less diversity, the less the cost! Also, a mono-bloom design can make a big statement!
